Learn the secrets to a successful grant application
Minority grants can really help people who are not financially stable. The only way to get it is by following
the application process and hope that is enough for the committee to approve such a proposal.
To date, there are over 1500 federal grants that are subdivided in its 57 agencies. Some examples of this are the Department of
Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Housing, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Federal Emergency
Management Agency.
A minority grant in one field is not only given to one person. This is because the budget for example for
small business is about $151 billion, education gets about $86.4 billion, research and development
is allotted $96.5 billion while those working for non profit organizations have $103 billion.
There are no limits imposed to the number of minority grants that the person can apply for. It is possible to be
awarded three minority grants at the same time and all the recipient has to do is use it wisely.
There are three ways to apply for a minority grant. The first will be to approach the targeted federal agency in
person to get the proper forms. If people are too busy to do this, this can also be done online. The last is by going through a
middleman such as a non-profit organization that can help argue one's case.
There are certain guidelines that the individual must comply with in order to be eligible for a minority grant.
Since each federal agency has a different set of requirements, it is best to do some research first which will increase the
chances of getting that application approved.
The committee that will be reviewing the documents submitted by the person will need something concrete before it decides to
award a certain amount of money. This means that a letter and perhaps some projections of what the individual is trying to do
should be submitted.
The people responsible for approving the small business grant will like to see the profitability of such a plan.
Those in the field of education will probably check how well the student is doing in school. Those working on
research and development would like to see the progress of the work and even the finished product.
This must also have a timetable and most important of all, the amount that will be needed for the minority grant.
Some recipients can get $15,000 while others can get more. This really depends on the scope of the project.
Hundreds of applications come in every year. The best way to keep track of this is by recalling the CDFA number
or the funding opportunity number. The person can call the agency or log on online to find out the status of the application.
If the proposal was not approved, the person should not feel disappointed. Perhaps there was something missing which should be
improved on or this could work if it was submitted to another agency.
In any case, there is also no limit to the number of times that a proposal can be sent. This means the individual can sent it
again next year to the same agency with the necessary improvements.
Borrowing money from banks and any other institution is tough because of interest rates and something has to be offered as
collateral. This is the reason that many would rather apply for a minority grant.
Loans are great but US Government grants are simply better!
Not all loans are the same. In an ideal world, they would all have flexible repayment features, low interest rates, fast funding
approval, and zero processing fees. But in reality, loans vary in terms and conditions, and finding the best deal can be hard,
especially if you don
't know what to look for.
The basic difference between loans and minority grants is that loans need to be repaid, while minority
grants function like aids and, therefore, do not have to be repaid. It helps to familiarize yourself with the most common
loans and minority grants available so that you can choose the best one, or even combine two or more.
Federal subsidized loans are long-term and are ideal if you belong to low-income families or are
supporting yourself entirely, without any help from relatives. The government subsidizes the interest rates so that
you don
't have to pay them within preset periods.
If you demonstrate financial need based on federal guidelines (which may change yearly), you can avail of federal grants administered
by the US Government. As with any minority grant, the money you get is considered an award, so you
don
't have to repay it. There are terms and conditions that will apply.
You must be 18 years of age or older and a legal resident of the U.S. or District of Columbia to qualify. The Federal Government
